TAE Technologies

Fusion, the very process that fuels the sun and stars, is not only environmentally friendly (and safe) but also has the potential to sustain our planet for thousands of years. Through TAE’s exclusive technology, TAE Technologies aims to produce and deliver affordable, round-the-clock fusion power to meet an escalating global demand and secure energy production for generations to come.

Company Background

TAE Technologies has transformed the world of energy production, bringing the promise of limitless, clean power to a planet in desperate need of sustainable solutions. This innovative company is the brainchild of late physicist Dr. Norman Rostoker and current CEO Michl Binderbauer, widely regarded as pioneers in the field of fusion energy.

Founded on a decades-long journey into harnessing the power of the sun, the company has developed a system that produces sustainable, clean energy through an advanced beam-driven field-versed configuration (FRC).

This next-level technology aims to eliminate the world’s dependence on fossil fuels, allowing both developed and developing nations to meet their growing energy needs without compromising the environment. Free from concerns about carbon emissions, radioactive waste, or nuclear proliferation, TAE’s fusion reactors promise to deliver abundant, safe power.

Although still in the pipeline, the company’s crown jewel is its Copernicus device. The device is not yet built but is set to showcase this technology in action, offering a glimpse into the future of energy production.

The TAE Technologies Timeline

TAE’s journey to creating the perfect fusion reactor began long before the company’s official inception.

  • In the late 1990s, Rostoker and Binderbauer recognized the limitations of existing energy sources in meeting the world’s growing electricity demand.
  • By the early 2000s, their natural talent and dedication to the field quickly became known, and they were already making waves in the scientific community. They became increasingly interested in the practical applications of fusion technology and the possibility of creating a compact, efficient reactor. This curiosity, combined with their desire to make clean energy accessible worldwide, laid the foundation for what would later become TAE Technologies.
  • In 1998, Rostoker and Binderbauer took the first steps toward realizing their dream. They assembled a team of engineers, scientists, and innovators to explore the possibility of creating a sustainable fusion reaction. This wasn’t just about building another experimental reactor – their vision was to recreate the power of the stars in a controlled, scalable setting.

The team embarked on a journey of extensive research and development, diving deep into the complexities of plasma physics and fusion technology. They set up state-of-the-art research facilities, complete with increasingly sophisticated fusion devices. These became the testing grounds for their groundbreaking ideas.

After years of intense work and countless experiments, TAE Technologies began to see real progress. The company’s core innovation was a fusion reactor system that could produce what they described as “the world’s most effective and economically competitive approach to fusion.”

TAE Technologies Leader in Fusion Energy

What set TAE’s technology apart was its unique approach to fusion, using hydrogen and boron as fuel – an aneutronic reaction that produces no neutrons and, therefore, no radioactive waste. This design allowed for a more compact, efficient, and environmentally friendly reactor than traditional fusion approaches.

From the beginning, TAE and its investors envisioned the company as more than just an energy producer. They saw it as a platform to reimagine the entire global energy landscape. The company’s plans included creating a range of applications beyond power generation, including life sciences and advanced power management solutions- which were realized at a later time..

This holistic approach aimed to leverage fusion research to improve various aspects of human life, showcasing the groundbreaking technology’s wide-ranging potential.

With more than $1.2 billion in private capital, 1,400 patents, and an experienced team of over 600 employees representing more than 40 countries, TAE Technologies has positioned itself as a leader in the fusion energy revolution. The company’s progress is evident in its series of increasingly sophisticated fusion devices, each bringing them closer to their ultimate goal of delivering hydrogen-boron fusion to the grid in the early 2030s.

The TAE Vision & Mission

TAE Technologies envisions a world transformed by abundant, environmentally-friendly fusion energy, driving positive impact and fostering a cleaner, brighter planet for generations to come.

Their mission is to harness collective resources to develop economically competitive hydrogen-fusion power plants, meeting global energy needs while protecting the planet.

In addition to the work in fusion, the company is spearheading innovations in intelligent power management systems and cutting-edge treatments for cancer patients.

How Big Sky Fueled the Fusion Revolution

Nuclear fusion sounded just far-out enough for Big Sky to know they were onto something groundbreaking. As major advocates for clean energy and keeping our skies clear, Big Sky began the journey with TAE Technologies in 2002, investing $50,000 in their vision.

As TAE continued to make groundbreaking progress in fusion research, Michael B. Schwab, founder and Managing Director of Big Sky Partners, became increasingly involved. Michael joined the board of directors and played a crucial role in strategic decisions, including the successful spin-off of TAE’s life sciences and power management divisions.

United as One TAE, we are passionately dedicated to creating a sustainable future that benefits all.

THE SKIES ARE CLEAR.
