North American Solar Energy Leader Strengthens Mid-Atlantic Base

groSolar, North America’s premier provider of solar energy solutions, announced today the acquisition of Chesapeake Solar, a leading installer of solar energy systems in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The acquisition makes groSolar one of the nation’s largest solar energy providers and extends the company’s reach, enabling groSolar to install more solar solutions on more homes and businesses in its effort to fight climate change and save customers money on energy costs.

“The missions of Chesapeake and groSolar are one and the same,” said groSolar CEO Jeff Wolfe. “The acquisition of Chesapeake will support our growth strategy and our commitment to deliver clean solar power in a cost effective way to as many consumers and businesses as possible. Middle School, Police Station Getting Solar Panels

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Furnace Brook Middle School and the Marshfield police station will receive free solar energy systems from NStar as part of the Marshfield Energy Challenge.

The cost of the police station’s system is around $24,000, and the middle school will receive two systems, valued at $23,000 and $22,000. Each system consists of photovoltaic modules totaling 2,660 watts of peak power and has a life expectancy of about 25 years — though they can last much longer.

Besides providing energy from a renewable source, NStar spokesman Dennis Galvam that by being on display on two town buildings, the systems will educate citizens and encourage energy efficiency in Marshfield. The panels at the police department will be visible from the south-facing roof and from Parsonage Street. The systems at the middle school, though on a rooftop, will include some type of visual, such as a Webcam, Galvam said.

“We want to have an educational element for the students to get further educated on solar energy,” he said.

The Marshfield Energy Challenge is a pilot program designed to reduce peak energy use through energy efficiency, solar power and peak-demand control. NStar and the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative are investing $4 million to help Marshfield businesses and homeowners install energy efficient technologies in their homes and businesses.

Galvam said the two buildings were chosen after NStar and groSolar, the company contracted to install the panels, went to all the schools, the police station, town hall and pumping stations. (Full Article)
